“I’ve been a member from Swop and Stay as from the beginning. I started when there were not even a 100 members approximately 8 years ago. We moved out from South Africa back to Europe two years ago. I’m Dutch but we have a house in Spain and we are still a member. I love the concept of Swop and Stay.”

What an absolutely fantastic experience we had at Calitzdorp Country House! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with open arms and instantly felt at home. The warm hospitality of our hosts, Andrew and Nell, made all the difference, turning our stay into something truly memorable.

The guesthouse itself is a gem. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and full of charm, just like the rest of the house. Every little detail, from the elegant furnishings to the thoughtful touches, reflected the passion and care that has gone into creating this stunning retreat.

Stepping outside, we were met with breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains. The lush garden, bursting with vibrant colors and tranquility, was the perfect spot to relax and take in the beauty of Calitzdorp. Whether enjoying a morning coffee on the veranda or watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of pink and gold, the setting was pure magic.

But what truly made our stay unforgettable was the people. Andrew and Nell went above and beyond to make us feel like part of their extended family. We spent a wonderful evening with them and their friends, sharing stories, laughter, and great company. It’s moments like these that make Swop and Stay so special—it’s not just about finding a place to stay, but about making real connections with like-minded hosts who share a love for travel and hospitality.

Nestled amongst the vineyards overlooking Calitzdorp is the magnificent four-star Calitzdorp Country House. It is beautifully furnished with antiques and offers spectacular views across a valley of orchards to the majestic Swartberg Mountains.

The luxurious accommodation includes five air-conditioned bedrooms with king-sized beds, a TV with satellite channels, en-suite bathrooms and a private patio. The Italian-tiled bathrooms include large showers, twin washbasins and outsize baths. Crisp linens, soft fluffy towels, quality hairdryers and gowns all add to your feeling of pampered care. After a spectacular Klein Karoo sunset, delight in a gourmet meal in our restaurant and end the evening by enjoying some of Calitzdorp’s best Port Wines. They offer free WiFi and parking and have a lovely garden with a dam and an outdoor pool.
