As a hotel owner in Namibia and a passionate traveller, I’ve always believed that travel is one of the most enriching tools we have – not just for leisure, but for connection, learning, and growth within our industry. This tranquil island, just a short ferry ride from Athens, offered everything I was craving: a slower pace, local charm, stunning natural beauty, and the kind of authenticity you don’t often find in the more commercial destinations.  My stay was hosted by Pascale, a fellow member of the Swop & Stay community, at her self-catering property in Galatas, just across the water from Poros. Pascale went above and beyond – not only welcoming us personally at the port as soon as we hopped of the ferry from Athens and helping with our ton of luggage, but stocking our apartment with thoughtful essentials.  We were welcomed with a spread of fresh fruits, biscuits, nuts, and even wine, beer, and a decent supply of bottled waters. She guided us through the area, gave us access to her luscious herb garden, and made sure we felt at home every step of the way.  What struck me most was the shared spirit of hospitality – the kind that’s instantly understood between people in this industry. Pascale wasn’t just providing accommodation; she was sharing her world.

During our stay, we explored everything from hidden beaches and traditional tavernas to mountaintop viewpoints and local markets. We celebrated with a champagne breakfast overlooking Poros, enjoyed lunch at a local spot at the port, and immersed ourselves in the quiet beauty of this off-the-beaten-path destination.  Swop & Stay made it all possible. The booking process was seamless, and being able to connect directly with Pascale made planning easy and personal. What started as a simple trip turned into an experience that reminded me why I love this industry so much.
